Next Seminar dates with available places :-

Course Tutor:- Malcolm Bartier M.Inst.S.Eng.

This one day Foundation Training Seminar is intended for Swimming Pool/Spa and Plant Room Operators with little or no previous experience or knowledge of swimming pool operations, and is designed to provide a basic understanding of day to day functions of an average pool and plant room. A Certificate of Attendance for this course is issued. By prior arrangement a 'multichoice' written exam with a Pass/Fail Certificate can be taken.

The legal aspects of commercial pool/spa operation are discussed, together with NOP, EAP and Risk Assessment Responsibilities.

The Health & Safety aspect is discussed to create an awareness of the hazards associated with swimming pools, spas, their equipment, and the chemical handling.

The concept of pool and spa water circulation is discussed and all the associated equipment, both in the pool shell and in the plant room, are examined to provide a full understanding of the entire circulation system, including circulation pumps, filters, heat exchangers, as well as valves, skimmers, overflow weirs, drains, and inlets.

The function and reason for backwashing or cleaning the filters is defined and the different types of filters encountered are illustrated and discussed to enable the operator to recognise them and understand the demands created by each type of filtration system.

The principle of pump and filter cleaning is described to give the novice operator a complete familiarity with these essential parts of the system, and the confidence to carry out this simple maintenance, essential to trouble free operation.

The other various items of pool equipment are considered, such as covers, cleaners, ladders, etc., to ensure that the day to day cleaning and maintenance of the pool can be carried out quickly and efficiently.

The origins of pollution in the pool and spa are discussed to create an awareness of the need for disinfection control. Basic water chemistry is described, dealing with chlorine (and bromine) and pH, and the test methods are discussed and demonstrated to enable the operators to test the basic chemical conditions of their pool water, and take corrective action to ensure that the water quality reaches the required standards.

Throughout the day the training is supported by a variety of 'hands-on' examples of pool and plantroom equipment so delegates can fully familiarise themselves with the details and workings of equipment they are likely to be using.

By the end of this seminar, those attending should be familiar with almost all aspects of swimming pool and spa systems, and be able to confidently carry out most day to day operations and ensure that the system functions in a satisfactory manner.

This training seminar takes a full day. Course Handbooks and Information Packs are provided but notes should also be taken.
